All Saints Episcopal Church

About

WHO WE ARE

Arms Open. Always.

We welcome seekers with open arms, explore faith with open minds, and serve the world with open hearts—following Christ's example in all we do.

All Saints Episcopal Church is a progressive, intellectually engaged community in East Lansing where questions deepen faith and “all” truly means all. Rooted in East Lansing since 1952, we’ve evolved into a place where beautiful liturgy meets compassionate action, where ancient tradition welcomes contemporary thought, and where seekers and believers explore together what it means to follow Jesus in the 21st century.

We exist to create space where authentic spiritual seeking, intellectual honesty, and compassionate action intersect. We’re working to change the narrative about what Christianity can be—demonstrating that faith communities can be intellectually rigorous and spiritually deep, liturgically traditional and socially progressive, theologically grounded and radically welcoming.

This is Christianity reclaimed: a refuge for seekers, a home for questioners, and a community where the Jesus story of radical welcome, sacrificial love, and justice for all is still desperately needed. We’re not trying to be the biggest church—we’re trying to be the most authentic one.

OUR VALUES

Welcoming

We practice radical hospitality—not as a program, but as our identity. Questions are welcomed, doubts are honored, and you don't need to believe everything to belong here. Whether you're a lifelong Episcopalian or exploring faith for the first time, you'll find genuine welcome at All Saints.

Questioning

We believe questioning strengthens faith rather than threatening it. Doubts are honored here, not hidden. Our congregation values intellectual curiosity and thoughtful engagement with scripture and tradition. We're a community where "I don't know" is a faithful answer, where curiosity is a spiritual practice, and where your hardest questions are met with genuine conversation.

Progressive

We take Jesus' call to action seriously. All Saints is fully LGBTQ+ affirming, champions women's leadership, and actively works toward racial equity and reconciliation. Our progressive theology translates into advocacy, community partnerships, and public witness. We believe the gospel compels us to work for the dignity and inclusion of every person, especially those marginalized by traditional religion.

COMMUNITY-ORIENTED

Compassion isn't just a feeling here—it's a commitment that shows up in action. We translate our values into tangible service through community outreach, interfaith partnerships, and consistent social justice work. Our outreach portfolio reflects Jesus' call to care for "the least of these," and our members show up to do the work, not just talk about it.

AUTHENTIC

We're done with performative Christianity and polished perfection. All Saints is a place where you can be yourself—struggles, doubts, questions and all. We value honesty over performance, substance over show, and genuine spiritual formation over religious theater. Our worship is beautiful, not stuffy. Our community is warm, not fake.

Rev. Dr. Andrew Armond

Rector

Father Andrew joined All Saints in September 2025, bringing a Ph.D. in Religion and Literature, a background in teaching, and a deep love of the Episcopal Church’s rare combination of intellectual rigor and spiritual warmth. He’s drawn to All Saints’ commitment to beautiful liturgy, thoughtful preaching, and radical welcome—a community where questions deepen faith and “all” truly means all.

Father Andrew lives in East Lansing with his wife Patty and their children. When he’s not at church, you’ll find him reading, listening to music, or exploring local restaurants.

What does it mean to be Episcopalian?

Being Episcopalian means belonging to a faith tradition that values both ancient liturgy and contemporary questions. We’re part of the worldwide Anglican Communion—rooted in centuries of Christian practice while engaging thoughtfully with modern life.

Our distinctive approach:

Episcopalians believe faith and reason work together, not against each other. We don’t require you to agree with every doctrine to participate fully. We value tradition but interpret it through the lens of justice and inclusion. You’ll find us asking hard questions in Bible study, celebrating beautiful liturgy on Sunday morning, and showing up for justice work throughout the week.

"The Middle Way"

Historically, Anglicanism (of which the Episcopal Church is the American expression) has been called “the middle way”—holding space between Catholic tradition and Protestant reform. Today, that means we’re liturgical but not rigid, theologically grounded but not fundamentalist, rooted in scripture but not literalist.

What Episcopalians believe:

We follow Jesus through worship, service, and seeking God with both heart and mind. We celebrate communion every Sunday (the Eucharist is central to who we are). We baptize, confirm, and welcome people of all backgrounds. We ordain women and LGBTQ+ clergy, bless same-sex marriages, and actively work for racial justice and reconciliation.

Our connection:

As members of the Diocese of Michigan, we’re connected to Episcopal communities across the state and around the world. This means you can walk into an Episcopal church anywhere and find familiar liturgy, similar values, and the same commitment to welcoming all people.
